It has been a long time since I read about Osho and his discourse on
accepting everything in life. But then, I was young, I was confident, over
confident to some extent and I dismissed the reading as "utter
nonsense". With time, I have had a more lasting relationship with life and
I have come to realize, how true the wise man was.
Embracing Failure:
Failure is the most difficult aspect of our life. But more than
failure, it is the fear that failure might be around the corner, that saps up
our mental strength. Worries and concerns, troubles and stress, all revolve
around this central theme of failure. Failure to meet expectations, failure to
meet demands, failure to achieve, the list is endless. And we struggle,
fighting it, struggling against it. But what we fail to realize, is that fear
is inherent to all of our lives. If everyone started winning, who would lose?
Accepting failure, understanding the lessons from a failed attempt and
continuing the journey, is the most treacherous of human conquests. Accepting
failure also eliminates the fear of losing. Embracing failure as a part of life
will bring about a paradigm shift in the way life progresses.
Embracing Fear:
Bruce Wayne became Batman after embracing his fear of bats. To
conquer fear by fighting it, is impossible. The only way to win over fear is to
accept it as your own. Just adding "Fear of" to any aspect of our
lives brings forth a reality we are all well aware of. There is fear of
everything. Fear is everywhere. And we try our best to conquer it. Always
figthing, never accepting.
Embracing emotions:
We are always advised to ignore the negative emotions and
concentrate on the best and the positive ones. However, aren't the bad ideas,
thoughts, a part of our mind? If we can accept the positive thoughts, why
ignore the negative ones? Embrace the negative thoughts, understand them and
accept what they mean. And life will be much more easier. Instead of ignoring
and fighting them, face them.
Embracing life:
Finally, the main point. How many times have I heard people say
this...This is not my life, I don’t want this life..etc. But then, it is their
life, it is what they have to live with. And again, it’s not just them, but all
of us who have been through similar phases. And what is the outcome? Can we
escape this life? No. Can we change this life? No. All we can do is accept it
the way it comes and be happy about it. It is what has been given to us. Make
the most of it. We will always have complaints but embracing our life as our
own, with all the good and the bad, will make the journey smoother and easier.
As a final thought, embracing everything might not be easy, but
definitely possible. If the ultimate goal is to make sense of life and utilize
all aspects of it, the best thing to do, is to embrace everything. Peace!!!
